Bangalore Excursion

Various excursions can be held around Bangalore at various places like Bannerghatta
National Park, Ramohalli, Nandi Hills, Hassan, Sravanabelagola, Halebid, Belur, Hampi, Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal, Bijapur and Coorg.
Nandi Hills 
Nandi Hills, a popular picnic spot is located about 60 kms to the north of the Bangalore.
Nandi Hills was once the famous summer retreat of Tipu Sultan. The hills offers a
breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside from Tipuís drop, a 600 m high cliff-face.
Here you can also visit the two beautiful temple, over a thousand years old, dedicated to
Lord Shiva. This picturesque hill station has fine gardens, lawns, hotels and tourist
bungalows.

Bannerghatta National Park  
Bannerghatta National park is located about 22 kms. from Bangalore. This national park is spread over an area of 104 square kms and set in picturesque surroundings. This national park is a lion and tiger reserve and also houses a crocodile and snake farm.

Ramohalli  

Ramohalli is the popular picnic spot located about 28 kms. via Mysore road and Kangeri. The main attraction of this park is the 400 years old huge banyan tree. The branches of the huge banyan tree spreads over an area of almost 3 acres.


Sravanabelagola
 

Sravanabelagola is the oldest Jain pilgrimage shrine in South India. A huge monolithic statue of the Jain saint Gomateswara, about 17.5 m high stands on the Landragiri hill in Sravanabelagola. It is considered to be the largest monolithic statue in the world. It is said that the Mauryan king Chandragupta visited this place in the 3rd century BC, after renouncing the world. 


Belur

Belur houses the famous Chennakeshava temple of the Hoysala temple of architecture. The star shaped Chennakeshava Temple stands on a high platform. Its exterior is ornamented with the exquisite sculptured carving of animals, birds, gods and goddesses in the finest way.
Hampi  
Hampi in North Karnataka is the former capital of the great Vijayanagar kingdom. Its ruins are impressive and spread out over an area of 26 square kms.

Halebid

Halebid is the finest example of the Hoysala style of temple architecture. This temple is noted for its abundance of exuberant sculpture and fine workmanship.

Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal
These were great centres of experimentation in temple architecture under the Chalukyan kings. The cave temples of Badami, carved out of rock, belongs to the 6th century A.D. The temples at Aihole represent early Hindu temple architecture, nearby Patttadakal mark the next stage of development. 

Bijapur
Bijapur is known for the Gol Gumbaz. Gol Gumbaz is a mausoleum whose dome is second only to St. Peterís at Vatican City in terms of diameter.  

Coorg  
Coorg is a hill station situated in the Western Ghats. Coorg is famous for its picturesque coffee estates, misty hills, mountain streams and its beautiful people with their martial spirit combined with graceful manners.
